We want to start including more content on the site and social media from our members. One way we can do that is with this new section, Louligan Letters. If you have an opinion or observation that you’d like to share with everyone, please feel free to contact us and submit it. Obviously we can’t just post everything, but as long as it’s well thought out, semi-coherent and topical we’ll post it up. In this, second edition we have a letter from Adam Burkard. He’s new-ish to the Louligans, but is the embodiment of what we’re looking for. Chances are you were once in his shoes or know someone who is.
Dear Fellow Louligans and Outlaws:
Many of you have probably still not met me as I am shy to introduce myself to new people, but I just wanted to say I’m glad to have finally met some people that are as crazy (or more so) about soccer as I am.
I really got into soccer when I was about 19, when the US had that great run in the ’02 WC, but none of my family or friends over the years shared my love of the game. I’m ashamed to admit that I personally did not know we had a local outdoor team to support in the Lions until last year. Before that, I had never even heard of AC St. Louis (perhaps a testament to the bad ownership that I’ve heard so much about?). I only knew of the Steamers and the Ambush and (forgive me) I just don’t really care much for the indoor game.
Word of mouth never really reached me until last year when I was looking at a friend’s facebook groups, saw St. Louligans and decided to check it out. Since then, it has been a blast! I met some great people at the tailgate for the Chelsea – Manchester City tailgate and from there, I was introduced to members of the American Outlaws STL chapter. Finally, I had found people that loved the beautiful game as much as I did.
I really hope STLFC will spend some money on a good advertising campaign to really get the word out that we have a pro team in town. I can only assume there are others like me who love the game but have just been left out of the loop. To the guys that work hard on organizing events, tailgates, etc., thanks for everything you do! I look forward to much drinking, shouting, and general silliness from here on out!
